Weighing‐up long‐term psychological support for bariatric surgery patients
Bariatric surgery is becoming a more commonly used treatment for the management of obesity; however, measures of effectiveness have tended to rely heavily on the short‐term physical health indicators of success, whilst largely neglecting psychological and social factors. The understandings achieved through listening to the lived experiences of countless individuals as they steered their way through the complex journey of bariatric surgery, this commentary deliberates on some of the unique lived experiences of patients who have undergone bariatric surgery and the overriding and under‐supported long‐term social and psychological aftermath.
