Abstract
This study aims to examine the usage patterns of the Korean verb deulda among Korean learners and to compare them with those of native speakers. To this end, the meanings of deulda listed in the Standard Korean Language Dictionary were first reviewed, and four semantic categories were established based on actual usage patterns in learner and native speaker corpora to capture patterns of semantic extension. These categories were then applied to statistically analyze the use of deulda according to group (learners vs. native speakers), proficiency level, and corpus type (spoken vs. written). The analysis revealed significant differences in the use of deulda across groups, proficiency levels, and corpus types. The findings suggest that Korean learners tend to rely on a narrower range of polysemous meanings of deulda, highlighting the need to consider its semantic extension more carefully in Korean language education.
